Certified Producers are regularly assessed by specially trained RSPCA Assessors, to make sure all 353 unique requirements of the RSPCA Australia Standard for Meat Chickens are consistently met. Meat chickens on farms with certification have more space to move and stretch their wings, as well as lighting requirements to encourage activity during the day, with proper dark periods for rest at night. The birds can also perch, dustbathe and forage, which leads to better health and welfare.

In fact, in 2022 alone, more than 1,030 assessments were conducted at meat chicken farms and abattoirs by RSPCA Assessors as part of Producers’ RSPCA Approved certification.

And that’s just some of the specific requirements in the Standard, all with the aim of improving animal welfare. Maintaining welfare during transport and slaughter is equally important, with 109 requirements also regularly assessed.

Ready to shape the future of higher-welfare farming?

Layer hens raised by producers with RSPCA Certification have nests, perches, litter to dust bathe and enough space to move. The Standard allows for indoor and outdoor housing that provide the hen with opportunities to perform natural behaviours.

A strict chain of custody program means that all RSPCA Certified ingredients can be traced from point of sale right back to the farm and refers to handling of all RSPCA Certified products.
