Certification Process

The initial stage of the certification process requires applicants officially lodge their request to become a Producer for the supply of RSPCA Certified products.

The next step entails preliminary discussions with RSPCA Certified about the applicant’s business and products. The applicant must then enter into a contractual agreement with RSPCA Australia.

Applicants must submit application forms to the Certification Body, providing information about the operations, policies and specific information relating to the Scope of Certification.

The Certification Body evaluates the application and assesses whether the applicant demonstrates conformance with the requirements of the relevant RSPCA Australia Standard.

On-site assessments are then conducted by RSPCA Assessors, to ensure conformance with the requirements of the relevant standard.

All farm sites and abattoirs intended to participate in the supply of RSPCA Certified Products are subject to assessment.

Assessment results are shared with the applicant, and where necessary there will be opportunity to address any non-conformances.

Successful applicants are granted certification, issued with a Certificate of Conformity and can, from that time, supply RSPCA Certified products to Licensees as outlined in the Scope of Certification.

To verify ongoing conformance, RSPCA Certified Producers are subject to regular assessments conducted by RSPCA Assessors on farm, during transport, and at slaughter. Paramount to the Program, these assessments include evaluation of documents, records and management practices, place significant importance on evidence of appropriate animal husbandry and handling practices and may be scheduled in advance or conducted unannounced.
