In accordance with the RSPCA Certified Operating Rules, the following update is provided regarding the review of the RSPCA Australia Standard for Turkeys.
RSPCA Australia’s animal specific higher-welfare Standards for farmed animals are reviewed approximately every five years to help ensure they continue to reflect contemporary scientific knowledge, emerging animal welfare considerations and practical farming outcomes. Standard reviews involve consultation with relevant scientific, veterinary, industry and animal welfare stakeholders, and consideration of current research and industry practice.
The review of the RSPCA Australia Standard for Turkeys has been delayed. Importantly, the current Standard remains applicable until any revised version is formally reviewed, approved and published. RSPCA Certified Producers will continue to be assessed against the requirements of the current Standard through the RSPCA Australia Certification Body’s assessment and certification processes, including assessment against the requirements of the documented practices relating to staff training, husbandry and animal health management, as well as on-site and unannounced assessments across relevant stages of production.
