Referencing RSPCA Certified

RSPCA Certified is Australia’s leading independent farm animal welfare certification, underpinned by animal-specific Standards that go beyond what is legally required in Australia.

A number of welfares issues the RSPCA Australia Standards do not cover, which is why RSPCA Certified is just one of the ways the RSPCA works to improve farm animal welfare – alongside working directly with government and industry and publicly advocating for change.

It is imperative that the RSPCA Certified brand name and logo are referenced clearly and correctly, and not used alongside terminology associated with welfare washing, a form of disinformation also referred to as humane washing. Welfare washing includes the use of misleading terms as a tactic to deceive consumers about products derived from farmed animals.

References to RSPCA Certified must be transparent, true to the nature of the program and focus how animals live better lives when raised on RSPCA Certified farms.

Terms such as ethical, humane and best, along with phrases such as most ethical choice, humane choice, highest welfare and cruelty-free must not be used in reference to the RSPCA Certified program or to market or promote purchase of RSPCA Certified products.
