Producers rearing RSPCA Certified meat chickens are regularly assessed against the RSPCA’s detailed animal welfare standards. Within the RSPCA Australia Standard for Meat Chickens there are over 400 requirements all focused on providing the birds with a better quality of life.

Farms that are RSPCA Certified are assessed 2-4 times per year by specially trained RSPCA Assessors who are well versed in animal behaviour and carefully check the farm against RSPCA Australia’s detailed requirements.

Importantly RSPCA Assessors also assess abattoirs who process RSPCA Certified meat chickens on an annual basis, as part of a Producers certification.

Ready to shape the future of higher-welfare farming?

Layer hens raised by producers with RSPCA Certification have nests, perches, litter to dust bathe and enough space to move. The Standard allows for indoor and outdoor housing that provide the hen with opportunities to perform natural behaviours.

When your products are RSPCA Certified, you are showing that animal welfare is a priority for your business. Find out how to achieve certification and the benefits of being RSPCA Certified.

Animal welfare is seen by customers as an important part of a brand’s social responsibility. RSPCA Certified is recognised by Australians as meaning animals have been farmed with consideration of their welfare.

A strict chain of custody program means that all RSPCA Certified ingredients can be traced from point of sale right back to the farm and refers to handling of all RSPCA Certified products.
