When you see the RSPCA Certified logo on La Ionica chicken products, this means that the birds have been raised to the detailed RSPCA Australia Standard for Meat Chickens.
These meat chickens are reared in a higher-welfare barn environment where they can perch, encouraging activity and improving leg health, and have quality, dry, friable litter so they can peck, scratch, and dust bathe – all natural behaviours that meat chickens have a strong motivation to do. These are just some of the 340+ unique, detailed requirements in the Standard that producers must meet to become RSPCA Certified.
RSPCA Certified farms are regularly assessed by trained RSPCA Assessors to make sure the RSPCA Australia standards are being met, and abattoirs are assessed as part of certification.
Ready to shape the future of higher-welfare farming?
Layer hens raised by producers with RSPCA Certification have nests, perches, litter to dust bathe and enough space to move. The Standard allows for indoor and outdoor housing that provide the hen with opportunities to perform natural behaviours.

Animal welfare is seen by customers as an important part of a brand’s social responsibility. RSPCA Certified is recognised by Australians as meaning animals have been farmed with consideration of their welfare.
A strict chain of custody program means that all RSPCA Certified ingredients can be traced from point of sale right back to the farm and refers to handling of all RSPCA Certified products.
